How can I pay?

We accept cash, cheque (with guarantee card), credit card and debit card. P.E.T.S. does not run accounts, and we expect payment at the time of service. Our whole pricing structure is geared to the vast majority of clients settling immediately as this helps to keep costs down. If you are unable pay at the time, please note that a deposit will be required and special arrangements will need to be made with the accounts staff during normal working hours.

Please ask for an estimate

To avoid unpleasant surprises, please make sure that you are given an estimate of costs by the veterinary surgeon before treatment commences. Often there are several ways of approaching a case, and the vet will be glad to discuss various treatment options with you.

Insurance

As veterinary knowledge increases and technology advances, we can do more and more for our patients. Ten years ago, who would have thought it possible for a household pet to be sent for an MRI scan? Conditions which used to carry a very grave outlook (heart failure, kidney disease, diabetes and cancers) are now often controllable, giving the animal a longer, better quality life.

The down side of this progress is that costs have increased dramatically, well above inflation. The "hi tech" equipment that vets need to perform these miracles cost serious money, and the newer drugs are more expensive as the pharmaceutical companies have had to spend millions of pounds on research, development and registration.

Insurance is often the best way of covering the high costs involved with pet care, At least half of the animals protected by pet insurance need treatment at some point in their lives. Certain pets are more accident prone - chocolate Labradors are the dogs that come top in the casualty stakes with 52% needing treatment.

Choosing a policy

Although we do not recommend any particular insurance, we do advise you to READ THE SMALL PRINT. There are a vast number of policies out there, and the only way to choose sensibly is to look at what is covered and the excess that will apply. Some of the "budget" policies will only cover a condition to a particular value per lifetime of the pet, whilst others will cover a condition for one year, but the following year it will be excluded from cover and some will genuinely cover all illness for life.
